AI PDF form filling benchmark: government forms filled on a Mac
How fast, and how much, can AI fill on government PDF forms when it runs on your own Mac? We recorded a run for every built-in form in Fyllyo: 47 forms, each filled from a test client’s documents.
The numbers
| Measure | Result |
|---|---|
| Forms filled | 47 |
| Fields filled, in total | 1,673 |
| Fields filled per form, on average | 36 |
| Documents read, in total | 312 |
| Time per form, median | 19 seconds |
| Time per form, slowest | 64 seconds |
| Documents uploaded | None |
How we ran it
- Test clients only. Each form has its own test client: made-up people and businesses with a realistic set of papers, such as returns, W-2s, statements, letters, emails, notes and worksheets.
- On a Mac. Fyllyo reads the documents and fills the form with AI that runs on the Mac. Nothing was uploaded.
- The time runs from choosing Fill the form to the filled PDF, with the documents already added.
- The count is the fields Fyllyo filled itself. Fields it left for the preparer, with the reason, aren’t counted.
Each form’s page describes its run, its documents and what Fyllyo left blank.
Every form
Blanks, not guesses
Speed only matters if the answers are right. When the documents disagree, or a figure is missing, Fyllyo leaves the field empty and says why, rather than picking one. On Form 1040-X, for example, it filled 46 fields from four documents and left a line for the preparer because two documents gave different amounts, 88,750 and 88,570.
